Phun with Physics: Hovercraft, Beds of Nails, Exploding Shaving Cream and More
Quick…what comes to mind when you think of a hovercraft…a bed of nails…and exploding shaving cream? A new music video? A sci-fi movie? An alien abduction gone horribly wrong?
How about science…in particular, physics? That’s right, physics—with Dr. Wright. Dr. David Wright, a Professor at Tidewater Community College, will be presenting “Phun with Physics” at our Wednesday night activity. Now, this is not a boring textbook or dry lecture…this is science like you’ve never seen it before! Dr. Wright is a popular speaker at many venues, including Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Tampa, and is famous for making science come alive! Come and see physics in a whole new light!
After the science fun is over, the evening will continue with refreshments and socializing. This is your chance to catch up with old friends, and make some new ones!
Thursday Night
Youth Talent Show
Want to be famous? Join us for our annual Youth Talent Show. We know you have talents, and we want to see them. Sing, dance, play an instrument, juggle, perform a skit, recite poetry—it’s your chance to shine.
If you are interested, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.
- Each talent needs to be 3 minutes or less. (This is to allow time for everyone who wants to participate, and still leave time for the dance afterward.) Please time yourself when you are practicing—we don’t want to have to drag you off the stage.
- Unlike previous years, this year you MUST sign up ahead of time in order to perform (NO EXCEPTIONS). Click on the link below to fill out the sign-up form.
We have a limited amount of time available. It will be first-come, first-served, so don’t delay. Sign up for your chance to take the stage.
Family Dance
After the talent show, the fun continues at our Family Dance. It’s your chance to mix and mingle, enjoy the music and dance, dance, dance.
Display Showcase
Not all talents are on the stage! Are you an artist? Photographer? Weaver? Carpenter? Quilter? We want to see your talents, too!
The Talent Showcase is your opportunity to share talents and skills you have developed. Bring your artwork, poetry, craft project or science fair entry! Show us your scrapbook pages, present your pottery, display your drawing or “wow” us with your woodworking! Impress us with your Eagle, Duty to God, Personal Progress projects or other certificates of achievement! We know that you have many accomplishments and we want to see them!
You must sign-up to let us know what you will be bringing.
All framed materials must have wire strung across the backside of the framed piece, so they can be displayed and hung safely.
Wednesday:
